1 Week and Caught in the Middle

Well, this time next week we'll be getting all of the last minute details together and trying to sleep... we catch a 6 AM flight next Wednesday morning. It is hard to imagine that in just over a week, we will be living in China. It feels very strange to say the least-- We have this weird mix of excitement and nervousness, anticipation and hesitation, joy and sadness. We don't feel particularly prepared for all of the transitions, and to be honest the language barrier is what gives us the most concern, but we are trusting that it will all work out.

A couple of weeks ago, we heard a new song by Casting Crowns that really seems to describe where we are right now emotionally and spiritually. For your listening enjoyment, I found it online here. (Note: The YouTube video is actually a family's homemade video -- I have no idea who they are, but it is the only place I could find the full song online! So, just play it for the song if you want to hear it.)

There are several lines that I love in the song... here are a few of my favorites.

Just how close can I get, Lord, to my surrender without losing all control
Fearless warriors in a picket fence, reckless abandon wrapped in common sense
Deep water faith in the shallow end and we are caught in the middle
With eyes wide open to the differences, the God we want and the God who is
But will we trade our dreams for His or are we caught in the middle

Hey, guys, we're so excited for you! We know it's crazy ("know" as in intellectually aware, not "know" as in we have any real understanding), but we also know God's already there waiting for you. We look forward to hearing about what God does in and through you over there!

we're just so excited for you too. I think about you guys everyday and pray that He makes this transition smooth for you...and I just can't wait to hear how He's using you in China. His hand has been upon this move from the very beginning and it's been so neat to watch!

Just go and do what you do best...be Jesus to all the peoples in China. There is something about going to China like you have before that touches your heart in a way that you are never the same again. This also happened to us! I am so excited about this journey and wish you could smuggle me in with you!

Hi Jacob and Carrie: I've thought as hard as I can to come up with just the right words of comfort and wisdom and guess what - I have none. Just the same words of reassurance that you are in my prayers everyday.

Ok, so I am responsible for the last 100k visits to the site but not a single comment. I think that it may be time. As difficult as it is to see two of my best friends go, one of which happens to be my brother, I know you are following the Lords lead on this one. I remember the conversations more than a year ago now when the Lord was planting seeds. He has watered and the time has come. Jane and I will be praying for you guys and you will be on our hearts constantly. We love the two of you and are glad that you are making the decisions that the Lord placed in your heart to make.
