Birthdays and Blogs

So Jacob had a birthday this weekend. I got up early and made him scones for breakfast. He was shocked to see me out of bed at 6:30 in the morning without any cajoling or snooze buttons.

That was my birthday present to him. (The getting-up-without-being-asked-1,578-times part.)

Generous, I know.

And then I baked a yummy carrot cake. Just call me Holly Homemaker! It really was yummy. I heart carrot cake. Thankfully Jacob does too, so it wasn't entirely self-serving. By the way, you should seriously see Chinese birthday cake candles. I've seen small children reduced to tears after one gets started. It's a flower that "blossoms" (in full bloom above) while this mini-flame thrower shoots out the center of the flower. Unfortunately, that stage of candle lighting isn't shown in the picture. Oh, and it plays the "Happy Birthday" jingle in an incredibly-annoying high-pitched electronic tone. Until you cut the wire. Which wasn't something I knew until recently. Previously I'd resorted to stomping on them. That also works.

And then a group of about 15 of us went to play paintball. Yes, that's right. Paintball in China. I joined the opposing team so that I could shoot Jacob. Which I failed to do, mostly because I was hunkered down in my bunker. What can I say? I'm afraid of pain and bruises. Oh, and I couldn't see out of my goggles... soo foggy. Jacob was a police man. I was a "terrorist." Jacob was really sore afterwards. He said it's from all the jumping and diving he did. I think it might be because he just gained a year.

In other non-birthday-related news. My favorite blog designer, Danielle of The Design Girl, (who, might I add, did my blog as a gift a long time ago) is hosting a great giveaway for a very special *wink, wink* foster home that's very close to my heart *wink, wink*

It's a raffle, and all proceeds go to the foster home. Not only could you win a custom blog makeover, but you could also get some other free stuff like stationary or a blog design using one of her premade templates. Go check it out...

Happy (belated) birthday Jacob! And might I suggest shooting Carrie with a paintball gun the next time she fails to drag herself out of bed? Because it sounds like that might work. Because of what she said and all. Except, maybe that's not a good idea if you want to stay married. Or alive even.

You're right... it might not be a good idea. Never know what secret ingredients I might put in the brownies next time. :)

Though it probably would get me out of bed. I'll give you that. :)

Happy Birthday, Jacob! It looks like the two of you had a lot of fun!!! I can't believe you ate the cake, though--it was way too beautiful! Of course, I'm sure that in reality it tasted even better than it looked! Good job, Carrie!

Haha Carrie the terrorist, I have trouble forming that picture in my mind. Jacob makes a great Police man however, Happy Birthday Jacob! Looks like it was a lot of fun!

That is what those candles are supposed to do?! The one we saw must have been broken or something because it was just a big fireball and we could not figure out why everyone kept poking at it! Mike says neehow - see you in Dallas!

What a fun birthday! I love those candles; we brought a bunch home and gave them to our friends. Now every time we're invited to a birthday party, we get to experience that lovely, incessant tune! And yes, stomping works beautifully! ;)
God bless you!
